Position Overview
AKIVA is seeking a reliable Accounting Assistant to support temporary financial operations at a public sector client site in New York’s Capital District. You will handle accounts payable/receivable, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting under the direction of the client’s finance team. As an AKIVA team member, you will have access to AI-enhanced accounting tools that streamline invoice processing, automated reconciliation, and data analysis. All training is included.
Key Responsibilities
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions
- Prepare and post journal entries to the general ledger
- Perform bank and account reconciliations
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures
- Prepare financial reports, spreadsheets, and analysis documents
- Maintain organized financial records and filing systems
- Support audit preparation and documentation requests
- Utilize AI-powered tools for automated invoice matching, anomaly detection, and financial data analysis
Required Qualifications
- 1–2 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas, pivot tables, VLOOKUP)
- Experience with accounting software (QuickBooks, SAP, or similar)
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Excellent organizational and documentation skills
- Must pass background check and drug screening
- Valid work authorization required
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Experience with accounts receivable and accounts payable systems
- Public sector or government accounting experience
- Experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems
