Duties Description
Working for the Bureau of Design & Construction in the Division of Operations, incumbent will:
Review project scope and budget with various DEC program staff.
Make site visits, possibly overnight, to assess building size/layout options/take measurements/produce sketches,
Review, edit and create architectural drawings in AutoCAD from working schematic drawings to final project design,
Produce cost estimates of architectural items and review contract bid prices,
Produce project specifications in a coordinated effort with other project staff, often serving as the project lead,
Review architectural submittals from contractors on construction projects,
Make site visits during construction to review conformance with project drawings or address design changes,
Provide technical information, advice and guidance to Assistant Architect staff on their projects within the bureau.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).
For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
To be eligible for appointment under NY HELPS, candidates must meet the minimum qualifications below:
Open Competitive Qualification
Possession of a New York State Professional Architect’s License and current registration.
Promotional Qualification
Must be a qualified employee of New York State and have had one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as an Assistant Architect AND you must possess a New York State Architect’s license and current registration.
Candidates May Also Be Eligible Via The Following
Reassignment - Currently in the title and an employee of DEC
or
Reinstatement Eligible - Previously held the title on a permanent competitive basis or held a title as indicated under the transfer eligible section on a permanent competitive basis.
or
Transfer Eligible - One year of permanent competitive service at Salary Grade 22 or higher and eligible to transfer in accordance with Civil Service law.
or
55b/c Eligible – Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications above and include with their resume or application, a copy of the letter from the Department of Civil Service which indicates their approval for the 55 b/c program
Additional Comments
The starting salary for this position is $98,298. This amount is comprised of a base salary of $91,298 and a geographic pay differential of $7,000 specific to the title and location of the position.
The job rate for this position is $122,252. This amount is comprised of a base salary of $115,252 and a geographic pay differential of $7,000 specific to the title and location of the position.
Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Travel may be required.
Overtime may be required.
Overnight travel may be required.
Telecommuting may be available, will be discussed at interview.

For new State employees appointed to graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts.
