OverviewWe are seeking an entry-level Junior Equity Trader to join our trading desk at an active asset management firm focused on small- and mid-cap equities. This role is well-suited for a developing trading professional who is eager to gain hands-on experience with equity execution, market structure, and trade lifecycle management in a buy-side environment.
The Junior Trader will primarily support senior traders and portfolio managers by assisting with trade execution, monitoring liquidity, and ensuring accurate and timely processing of trades. The position offers meaningful exposure to decision-making in less liquid securities and a clear path for growth within the trading organization.
Key Responsibilities· Assist in the execution of equity trades, with a focus on small- and mid-cap securities
· Enter, route, and monitor orders using the firm’s OMS/EMS under the guidance of senior traders
· Observe and learn execution strategies tailored to lower-liquidity names, including limit orders and timing considerations
· Monitor intraday market activity, news, and volume to flag relevant developments to the trading desk
· Support trade allocations, confirmations, and post-trade reconciliation
· Help ensure trades are executed in accordance with best execution obligations and compliance standards
· Communicate with brokers and internal teams to resolve basic trade-related issues
· Maintain organized records and assist with daily trading desk reporting
Required Qualifications· Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field
· 1–3 years of experience in trading support, buy-side trading, sell-side trading assistant, or capital markets operations
· Active FINRA Series 7 license (required)
· Basic understanding of equity markets, order types, and market structure
· Strong attention to detail and ability to work under time-sensitive conditions
· Proficiency in Excel; comfort working with financial data
Preferred Qualifications· Prior exposure to small- and/or mid-cap equities
· Familiarity with Bloomberg and buy-side OMS platforms (e.g., Indata or similar)
· Series 63 and/or Series 57 licenses (or willingness to obtain)
· Demonstrated interest in equity markets, trading, or portfolio management
