Job Summary:
The Controller will oversee all accounting and financial operations of the firm, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and compliance. This is a hands-on role responsible for budgeting and forecasting, managing cash flow, overseeing payroll and vendor payments, and working closely with firm leadership to provide clear financial insights. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, comfortable in a small professional services environment, and able to balance execution with strategic support.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage accounts payable, accounts receivables, payroll, and cash management.
- Oversee general ledger maintenance and reconciliations.
- Oversee monthly client billing, contract invoicing, and collections, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Prepare financial statements, including income, expenses, and cash flow reports for leadership review.
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes and ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Coordinate with external accountants on tax filings and year-end financial reporting.
- Maintain and update client financial records, budgets, and forecasts.
- Develop and implement processes for financial efficiency and internal controls.
- Support leadership with financial analysis, budget planning, business decisions, financial performance, and recommend improvements.
- Administer payroll and employee expense reimbursements.
- Manage relationships with banks, vendors, and financial service providers.
- Assist with annual audits and compliance documentation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA preferred but not required).
- 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting or financial management, preferably in a professional services firm.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks Online, Microsoft Excel, and related financial management tools.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to meet strict deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to present financial insights clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
- High level of discretion, integrity, and professionalism.
