Role Description This full-time, on-site Building Inspector role is located in Albany, NY. The Building Inspector is responsible for conducting building and site inspections to ensure compliance with applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing plans and permits, performing inspections during various phases of construction, documenting findings, and issuing reports or corrective notices as needed. The role involves close coordination with property owners, contractors, architects, and other municipal staff to address code-related questions and resolve compliance issues. The Building Inspector also participates in code enforcement activities, maintains accurate inspection records, and contributes to public safety initiatives through proactive monitoring and education.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess strong skills in Building Inspections and Inspection practices, including evaluating structural, electrical, and mechanical work.
- Candidates should have experience with Site Inspections, including assessing construction progress, environmental conditions, and safety compliance.
- Candidates should possess Code Enforcement skills, including interpreting building codes, zoning regulations, and related ordinances.
- Candidates should have practical knowledge of Plumbing systems and related inspection requirements.
- Knowledge of local, state, and national building codes and standards (e.g., IBC, IRC, NFPA) is highly beneficial.
- Relevant certification or licensure as a Building Inspector or Code Enforcement Officer is preferred.
- Strong communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse community members and construction professionals.
- Ability to work independently in the field, make sound decisions, and manage multiple inspections and deadlines.
- Experience in municipal or public-sector inspection work is an advantage; an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, or a related field is beneficial.
