Position Summary
A Nursery Grower is responsible for producing healthy, high‑quality plants by overseeing all aspects of plant growth, propagation, and cultivation. This role includes managing crop schedules, monitoring plant health, ensuring optimal growing conditions, and maintaining accurate records. Nursery Growers work hands‑on with plants daily and collaborate with nursery staff to achieve production goals.
Key Responsibilities
Plant Production & Cultivation
- Propagate plants through seeds, cuttings, grafting, or division.
- Monitor plant growth and adjust watering, fertilizing, and pruning schedules as needed.
- Maintain optimal growing conditions including temperature, humidity, irrigation, and lighting.
- Perform pest and disease scouting and apply appropriate control measures.
Crop Planning & Management
- Develop and follow crop production schedules.
- Track inventory of plants from propagation to finished product.
Greenhouse & Nursery Maintenance
- Operate and maintain greenhouse equipment such as irrigation systems, heaters, and environmental controls.
- Ensure growing areas are clean, safe, and organized.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and supplies in good working order.
Recordkeeping & Compliance
- Keep detailed records of crop cycles, pesticide applications, fertilizer use, and environmental controls.
- Follow all safety and regulatory guidelines related to chemical use and plant health.
Team Collaboration
- Train and assist seasonal or full-time staff in nursery tasks.
- Coordinate with sales, operations, or management on production needs.
Qualifications
Required
- Experience in plant production, greenhouse/nursery operations, horticulture, or a related field.
- Knowledge of plant biology, propagation techniques, and pest/disease identification.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Preferred
- Certification or degree in horticulture, agriculture, botany, or plant sciences.
- Experience with automated irrigation or greenhouse climate control systems.
- Pesticide applicator certification (NYS3A License-specific).
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 30–50 lbs regularly.
- Frequent standing, bending, walking, and working in greenhouse conditions (heat, humidity).

Pay: $45,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
