THIS IS A DIRECT HIRE SOLICITATION - THIS POSITION IS BEING ADVERTISED THROUGH THE DIRECT-HIRE AUTHORITY (DHA) FOR DOMESTIC DEFENSE INDUSTRIAL BASE (DIB) & MAJOR RANGE AND TEST FACILITIES BASE (MRTFB) AND IS OPEN TO ALL U.S. CITIZENS.
Duties:Under the guidance of a Level II certified journey level operator, the employee is responsible for:
- Radiographic (RT) method of NDT inspection requiring setup and safe operation of both conventional and digital film readers for RT exposures of metallic castings, forgings, weldments, other wrought products, to include completed assemblies.
- Ultrasonic (UT) method of NDT inspection requiring setup, calibration, and safe operation of automated/manual test equipment using the contact and immersion methods of sound introduction and the pulse echo or through transmission methods of sound reception.
- Eddy Current(ET) method of NDT inspection requiring setup, calibration, and safe operation of ET test equipment using surface, encircling and inside coils and gap probes with analog and impedance plane display instruments.
- Magnetic Particle (MT) method of NDT inspection requiring both wet and dry, fluorescent and visible magnetic particles.
- Penetrant Inspection (PT) methods on NDT inspection requiring both fluorescent and visible dye, water washable and solvent removable.Qualifications: Your resume must reflect experience which shows your ability to do the work of a Nondestructive Tester with close supervision.Minimum Qualifications: Ability to do the work of a Nondestructive Tester under close supervision which includes:(1) Using a knowledge of and variety of Nondestructive testing methods, inspect materials and products for structural flaws or defects; (2) Aptitude for learning and understanding an inspection process on manufactured components; and (3) Prepare inspection forms and/or reports.Requirements for Position:
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health, ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- The work involves prolonged periods of standing, walking, repeated bending and occasional climbing. Moderate lifting and carrying (approximately 40 pounds) of items is required.
- Work in this trade requires the worker to stand, stoop, bend, and reach. The worker will handle items weighing up to 44 pounds without assistance. Hoists, hand trucks, lifts, and other employee sare available to assist when handling heavy or awkward items. Eye fatigue occurs from working under black light and viewing radiographs. The worker is required to pass annual vision tests for acuity and color perception.
- Works is clean, well-lighted and well-ventilated production shop areas. Wears safety shoes, glasses and other protective clothing as required. Exposed to solutions and generally oily parts, which may cause dermatitis or allergy conditions.
- Due to the nature of this position, employees may be required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.

- Must possess near vision Jaeger Number 1, at not less than 12 inches in at least one eye.
- Must have the ability to obtain certification of all 5 methods of NDT performed at WVA IAW National Aerospace Standard (NAS) document NAS410: (1) Level I formal classroom training in the Radiographic (RT) test methods (consisting of a physical exam, eye exam, 20-hour course with exam). (2) Level I formal classroom training in the Eddy Current test methods (consisting of a physical exam, eye exam, 40-hour course with exam).
