Job Title: Vice President and Director – Committee for Physicians Health

The Medical Society of the State of New York (MSSNY), a statewide public health and advocacy organization, seeks an energetic self-starter for its Vice President (VP) to direct the Committee for Physician Health (CPH). CPH provides confidential non-disciplinary assistance for physicians experiencing substance abuse and other mental health conditions.
Reporting to the Executive Vice President (EVP), the VP will direct CPH operations to monitor treatment and compliance of program participants, provide advocacy support and coordinate outreach and education activities. Maintain structure for the recruitment, selection, development, motivation, and evaluation of program staff. Develop mechanisms to assure program quality and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, contract requirement and MSSNY policies. Plan and manage financial and physical resources in a cost-efficient manner. Initiate education and outreach to physicians, hospitals, government agencies, Advisory Committee and MSSNY leadership. Negotiate annual Office of Professional Medical Conduct (OPMC) contracts.
The VP will also be required to:
Develop operations, outreach and communication strategies, including, but not limited to:
- Maintain and expand current program funding sources.
- Develop, implement, and maintain an on-going planning process addressing mission, strategies, goals and objectives.
- Maintain an appropriate knowledge of active cases in the program through regular interface with Medical Director and Assistant Directors, including developing tracking procedures for participants, program data and performance.
- Represent MSSNY in speaking with print and broadcast media regarding program-specific issues.
Interact daily with health system executives, physicians and government agencies, including:
- Negotiate annual contract with OPMC, including budget preparation, explanation of expense categories and contract deliverables.
- Maintain positive working relationships with OPMC, Advisory Committee, MSSNY leadership, state physician health programs and colleagues.
- Maintain adherence to MSSNY and Department of Health (DOH) fiscal policies.
- Develop an active fund-raising program.
- Communicate with MSSNY leadership and government agencies regarding the impact of current or proposed policies, regulations and laws.
Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with health systems, hospital associations and
medical staff organizations including, but not limited to:
- Responsible for quality and appropriateness of service provided by CPH. Negotiate and enforce terms of contracts with outside organizations, including consultants and laboratory services.
- Develop and maintain contractual relationships with consultants such as IT and forensic toxicology laboratories.
Oversee program operations though regular interface with medical director and assistant
directors, including:
- Create and maintain a positive work environment while providing daily supervision to All CPH employees.
- Conduct initial orientation and continuing education programs for Advisory Committee and staff.
- Conduct annual employee performance evaluations, recommend staff salary increases.
- Maintain and update job descriptions and policy documents.
Qualified candidates must have the following qualifications:
- Baccalaureate degree and five years’ experience supervising professional staff
- Experience with healthcare management, medical staff, policy development and knowledge of regulations by a state agency.
- Strong communication, public speaking, analytical and writing skills are essential.
- Familiarity with mental health issues, substance use, and knowledge of medical profession is a plus
Salary Range:
$150,000 annually
