We provide strategic advocacy, workforce training, credentialing, and collaborate with cross-sector partners to enhance access to these essential services. Role Description
Under the direction of the Chief Research & Policy Officer, the Policy & Advocacy Coordinator plays a key role in advancing InUnity Alliance’s Policy Center initiatives. The Coordinator supports the strategic development and implementation of the organization’s policy agenda to strengthen advocacy for service providers supporting individuals living with mental health and substance use disorders.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Policy Tracking
- Monitor and analyze policy activity impacting members at the state and federal level, including NYC, such as tracking legislative and regulatory hearings, media, webinars, and proposed rules.
- Maintain a policy calendar and generate weekly internal updates.
- Document and maintain Policy Center requests, recommendations, progress, and positions.
- Assist with organizing and gathering information necessary to evaluate and assess policy impacts.
Project Management
- Manage and organize Policy Center events and training, including onsite logistics for lobby days.
- Collaborate with chairs of member committees to set agendas, schedule guest speakers, take notes and promote committee meetings.
- Document, process, and submit lobbying reports as required.
- Collaborate with InUnity Alliance staff to keep member contact information updated.
Communication
- Identify, collect, and draft content for Policy Center announcements and newsletters.
- Contribute to the development of written advocacy materials and presentations, such as talking points and social media content.
- Attend and represent InUnity Alliance at external meetings and events, taking notes and distributing summaries as required.
Education and Experience
- Candidates must have or obtain a New York Certified Peer Specialist (NYCPS) and/or a Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA) certification(s) within six months of hiring date.
- Two years of relevant experience
Qualifications:
- A strong commitment to advancing policies that advance care for individuals living with mental health and/or substance use disorders.
- Adept at using technology such as Microsoft Office and Zoom, including advanced features.
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with members, including excellent customer service skills.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.Skill in managing sensitive information with discretion.
- Experience with social media or content management systems is a plus.
- This is a hybrid position based in Albany, NY, with periodic travel to New York City required.
