Position Purpose
The Regional Director is the face of the NRLA for members and affiliates in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, with a primary focus on serving the Eastern Building Material Dealers Association (EBMDA) and the New Jersey Building Material Dealers Association (NJBMDA). This role is about building relationships, driving membership growth through membership value, and strengthening the state and local associations that are essential to NRLA’s success. The RD ensures members are engaged, informed, and supported, while partnering closely with volunteer leaders to deliver high-quality programs and events. Position Summary
The Regional Director (RD) is the primary link between NRLA, its affiliates—including EBMDA and NJBMDA—and the membership they serve. This position is equal parts relationship management, member recruitment/retention, and affiliate support. The RD plays a critical role in ensuring members are engaged, supported, and informed, while also helping state and local associations thrive through strong communication, guidance, and event execution.
Key Responsibilities
1. Membership Growth & Engagement
- Retain existing members by providing value, solutions, and proactive support.
- Recruit new members from core and adjacent industries.
- Promote and sell NRLA and State and Local Assocation services, programs, events, and products.
- Serve as a trusted advisor, helping members maximize their NRLA benefits.
2. State & Local Association (S&L) Support
- Partner with EBMDA and NJBMDA leadership to deliver on their goals and strengthen engagement.
- Schedule, prepare for, and attend board meetings, golf outings, annual meetings, and social events.
- Provide on-site support at S&L events, ensuring seamless operations and member satisfaction.
- Collaborate with NRLA Event Coordinators on logistics (meeting notices, registrations, scholarships, sponsorships, and promotional materials) and follow up on action items.
3. Liaison Between NRLA and Affiliates
- Ensure state and local committees are kept current on NRLA initiatives, resources, and opportunities.
- Facilitate communication between NRLA headquarters staff and S&L leaders.
- Strengthen collaboration across functional areas (legislative, education, membership, member programs, publications, etc.).
- Act as a bridge—not a substitute—for headquarters staff, ensuring consistency and alignment across all NRLA activities.
Role Expectations
- Recruitment: Drive membership growth through targeted outreach and relationship-building.
- Retention: Provide consistent service and support to enhance member loyalty.
- Representation: Serve as the visible and accessible presence of NRLA for EBMDA and NJBMDA.
- Support: Strengthen the effectiveness of state and local affiliates through hands-on assistance and strategic guidance.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of customer service and related sales experience, preferably in an association or trade organization.
- Proven success in membership development, client relations, or business development.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills; able to engage at all organizational levels.
- Ability and willingness to travel 75% of the work week throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
- Residence in Pennsylvania or New Jersey required.
- Self-starter with strong accountability, organizational skills, and ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
- Association or nonprofit experience strongly preferred.
